Online Shopping Sites
Online shopping is any form of commerce that allows users to make purchases from a browser, often with shipping and billing information. Make sure you look for, find, and cancel all the online purchasing sites. Look for notifications for receipts, delivery confirmations, and advertisements in your loved one’s email and bills from the credit card statements or payments in checking account records.
Online shopping sites have personal and billing information, purchase and search histories, and may have stored credit card numbers for your deceased loved one. This can allow anyone with access to their computer or ability to buy things from these sites or engage in identity fraud. It is important to do all this before credit card information can be used for fraudulent purchases or identity theft can happen.
You must check any bills from the source of the purchase in case the transaction was fraudulent, and continue to do so for a time after canceling the accounts on these sites.
When you know your loved one’s password and username or email you must login to their account to begin the process. In general, it may be as simple as going to the site and looking for instructions on how to cancel membership. There may be a single icon to click.
You can’t close most accounts if there are limitations, unresolved issues, or a balance.
There are innumerable shopping sites, but there are some that are most common.
Adidas
Amazon Prime and Shopbop

You can cancel membership in the American Eagle Outfitters Program by emailing Customer Care or calling them at 800-340-0532.
Apple

Barnes & Noble

Best Buy
Contact Customer Service online, through the Best Buy forum, by online chat, or phone 1-888-BEST BUY 888-237-8289. You may need their Email, Password, Member ID, and Phone number associated with account
Bloomingdale’s
Password and email unknown — You can cancel their Bloomingdale’s membership by emailing Customer Service or calling them at 800-777-0000.
Boohoo
To cancel a membership you must contact customer support at boohoo.com/ or email them at customerservices@boohoo.com.
Costco
To cancel their Costco membership, speak with an employee at any warehouse membership counter or call their Member Services Center at 800-774-2678.
Craigslist
The account will expire if the account remains dormant long enough.
To actively close their account you can email abuse@craigslist.org to request deactivation. You might want to remove all their posts or active listings before deactivating. This may require their Email and password.
eBay
Submit a request to their account and an email will be sent to their registered email address and to their eBay Messages within 24 hours letting you know they’ve received it.
Etsy
Password and email/username known
- Shops Account (sellers) — The shop account has now become a buyer-only account, which you can delete next.
- Buyer-Only Accounts
- If you don’t see the Close Account button, there may be an unpaid Etsy bill or open non-delivery report associated with their account. After all bills and/or open cases are resolved, you’ll be able to close their account.

Express

Fry’s Electronics

- Open Subscription Manager.
- Choose cancel your Subscription.

Overstock
Submit an email request to support@overstock.com or customercare@overstock.com — Subject: Request to delete account. An email will be sent to their registered email address. You should reply to the email requesting customer support to delete your loved one’s Overstock account from the Overstock database and to remove all their information.
PayPal Personal
Before you close their PayPal account, withdraw any money they had in the account. You can transfer the money electronically to a bank account or receive a check. If they have an email address on their account that they haven’t confirmed, remove it from the account before you close it.
Priceline
Priceline doesn’t offer a direct means of canceling an account, but you can go to their Customer Support page and select the Contact Us tab in the middle box and request a cancellation.
Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI)
